We are Thinking Differently at Van Meter!

For this project, we were given the charge to create a project for ISTE's technology committee.

I used Prezi for our project about technology and how it is changing at Van Meter. I used Prezi because it is a really easy and fun tool. It is neat because it is kind of like a Power Point, but more interesting.

I think the biggest change that technology is causing at Van Meter is all the new people we are connecting with and the new ways of learning.

YOUTELLYOU

I really liked YouTellYou. It is a fun way to put your pictures and include comments. It is kind of like your own little newspaper with your pictures and comments included. I created two YouTellYou's. One about homecoming and one on my cousin Zoey and her birth. I will defiantly use this in the future. I can use it maybe with big events like prom or halloween or something fun like that.

Our PLN Field Trip....Something to Remember!

A few days ago my PLN class went on a field trip to the movie The Social Network and out to eat at On The Boarder.

First, we went out to eat at On The Boarder. This is my favorite place to eat so I was very excited about going there. Our original plan was to go to Buffalo Wild Wings but we changed our minds at the last minute. I thought that On The Boarder was a lot better anyway! :) The food was amazing as usual!

Then we went to the movie The Social Network. I thought it was really good and it was very interesting to hear about how Mark created Facebook. It was amazing what he all had to go through to get it to the way it is today. It is also cool to hear how much code and how fast he created Facebook.

I think I loved hearing about this because I love Facebook! It is such a good way to see whats going on with people and meet new people too. Facebook is definitely one of my favorite ways to connect!

Animoto is a fun and easy way to make a slideshow of your pictures. You can also incorporate music with your pictures. It is really fun and easy. You can have a video up to thirty seconds for free but anything over that you have to pay for it. I think if you used this enough though it would definitely be worth it to purchase. It is kind of like an online scrapbook for your memories.

I really like it and plan to use it in the future for many things.

Experiences with Skype

We have talked to many people on Skype and I have learned many things. Some of the experiences we have had are with Tom Whitby, Will from Juxio, Maggie from Diigo, Kimmie from Symbaloo, and the class in Philly. We have learned many things from these people. I really appreciate all the help we have received from them. I like how we have learned how to use these Web 2.0 websites by the creator. It is interesting to hear there stories about how they started. It is cool how they started off small to having these huge websites where thousands of people use them everyday.

I love how my mom (Mrs. Miller) is teaching the class also. It's fun learning from her since I hear her talking about it all the time. I am so proud of all the new people she is meeting and the difference she is making in Van Meter and around the world. =)

One of the web 2.0 tools we talked about was Juxio. I love this tool. It is a lot of fun to use. I like how you can put pictures in there and then put a text box describing it. This will definitely be a tool that I use in the future. It was really cool how Will, the creator, taught us how to use it http://www.juxio.com/blog/juxio-and-the-classroom .

My PLN Journey and What it means to me

To me my PLN journey means the journey I am going to take in my life. The things I am going to do and what I want to do when I get older. Ecology and Biology is a big part of this journey for me. I want to be an ecologist or a biologist. Iowa and Uni are also a big part of this journey those are the places I might that I want to go to college. Those are a few things about my PLN journey and what it means to me.
